As one of the few CITB approved test centres in the Midlands, we’re eager to encourage construction site workers to obtain their CSCS green card with us. Not only does this passport into the construction industry set candidates apart during the application process, but it also proves early on that they are committed to being the best employee that they can be. As a construction company, having safety-conscious individuals is key to the unhindered completion of a project and the reputation of the site staff, so if employees are equipped with a CSCS green card, it’s time to book them in.
The Construction Leadership Council is working to ensure nationally recognised qualifications are in place for all construction-related occupations. Under this requirement, the CLC withdrew the Basic Skills card which was the CSCS green cars predecessor, as the training and qualifications necessary to obtain the skills card, do not meet the CLC’s requirements. The CSCS Green Card is the most up to date card a labourer can now hold as in order to obtain one, candidates must complete a CITB accredited health and safety programme, in line with the CLC guidelines.
A secondary step of obtaining a CSCS Green Card is candidates undertaking a Health Safety and Environment touch screen test, at an approved test centre. This multiple-choice examination is 45 minutes long and is made up of 12 behavioural case study questions about how to behave on a construction site and stay safe and 38 knowledge questions to check the awareness of health, safety and environment issues. As APT Health and Safety are an accredited test centre, employers who enrol their staff onto this course are able to claim back certain costs.
