The end of the year is approaching and as businesses might be thinking about winding down or ramping up for the new year depending on their industry, most construction staff will be hard at it whatever the time of year. A new year often brings in a new wave of projects which may need more hands on deck, so getting as many construction workers equipped with a CSCS test at our Stoke on Trent HQ is a must to ensuring that everyone is working safely and effectively.
How to Get One
To obtain a CSCS card, candidates must complete a Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) accredited course, with the Health and Safety Awareness Course (HSA) being one of the most widely completed. This course is designed for new starters to the construction industry and provides a base level understanding of risks that may be encountered, how to assess them and how to conduct oneself on a site. Once they’ve completed this, candidates must then complete a CSCS Test at an approved test centre – of which our Stoke on Trent base is one. The added bonus of completing this test with us, is that employers are able to claim back money for training completed with us, making it more cost effective.

The CSCS test that must be completed is called the CITB health and safety environment test and is sometimes referred to as a screen test. Split into 2 sections this examination takes about an hour with the first section using behavioural case studies to test candidate’s application of their knowledge, before moving onto more generalised and theoretical questions in the second part. After the health and safety course and the screen test have been completed, candidates must apply online for their card and pay a small few, but then they will be ready to enter the new year with the relevant health and safety needed to make projects run smoothly.
